users have already searched online for a way to disable Mode S in Windows 11.
Mode S is designed to improve security by allowing you to use only Microsoft Store applications.
While it provides an extra layer of security for your devices, it also has its limitations.
If you are one of those people who wants to get out of S mode, you can easily fix the problem through your PC settings and Microsoft Store.

S-Mode was first introduced in Windows 10 four years ago, Microsoft has announced that users can expect it in Windows 11 as well.

While it adds extra security and improves the performance of your devices, it doesn’t mean everyone is happy with this feature as people are already looking for ways to disable it.

Windows 11 in S mode works exclusively with applications from the Microsoft Store. So if you want to install an application that is not available in the Microsoft Store, you will have to exit S mode.

You have to be careful though, because the mode S switch is only one way. If you decide to continue, you will not be able to return to Windows 11 in S mode.

How do I disable mode S in Windows 11?
1. Using Windows Settings
Click the Start button and open Settings.
Select Update and Security.
Click on Activation in the left sidebar.
See Upgrading to Windows 11 Home or Upgrading to Windows 11 Pro. The name here depends on the version of Windows 11 you are using.
Choose Go to Memory here. Under Upgrade your version of Windows, make sure you do not click on the Go to store option. This is another process that keeps you in Mode S.
On the Mode S transition page that appears in the Microsoft Store, click Get.
Click on the Install button.
Follow the instructions to confirm.
You can now install applications that are not from the Microsoft Store.

Users report that when they try to download Switch from Mode S from the App Store, an error message appears: Try again later, something went wrong on our end.

If this is also your case and the above steps did not help you out of S mode, then proceed with the following solution to reset the Microsoft Store.

2. Reset Microsoft Store
Click Start and open Settings.
Go to Applications and Features.
Under Apps & Features, find the Microsoft Store application.
Click on it and select Advanced Settings.
Find the Reset button and click it.
When the process is complete, restart the unit from the Start menu and follow the steps again to exit S mode.

Once you disable Mode S on your Windows 11 device, you can use any web browser and download any application that is not in the Microsoft Store.

However, you should think twice before making this decision, as Mode S is designed to start faster, increase battery life and improve safety.

How do I enable mode S in Windows 11?

As we mentioned earlier, if you have Mode S disabled on a Windows 11 device, you cannot enable it.

If you decide to upgrade the Windows version without leaving S mode, the device will remain in S mode.

It is recommended to keep the unit in the S position, especially for families with children, as this provides additional safety.

However, if you want to use your computer without restrictions, disabling Mode S will give you the freedom to use your computer.

If you want to know a little more about the features of Windows 11, you should definitely read this article and see how Windows 11 compares to Windows 10.
