Google Alerts are a great way to monitor the latest news around your industry and get a sense of the general trends without having to visit the news sites directly. They are also a great way to gather information about people or companies in your industry and how they are doing in relation to your competition. However, choosing the right search terms can be a difficult process to perform.
In this article we’ll show you how to use Google Alerts to find the best keywords for your PPC campaigns.
With over 267 million unique visitors, Google is by far the most popular search engine in America. Why is this important? If Google is the most popular search engine, you should place your PPC ads there. You should also keep track of the most popular topics and keywords in your industry to better inform your PPC research. How can you do that? There are several analysis tools, including my own Ubersuggest. But did you know that you can use the famous Google Alerts service to provide information to your PPC campaigns? If not, don’t worry. When you think of digital marketing and Google, Google Alerts may not be the first tool that comes to mind compared to, say, Google Ads. I’ll show you how Google Alerts work and how they can help you make your paid advertising campaigns more effective.
What are Google Alerts?
Google Alerts is essentially a notification tool. You can use this service to find out when people use certain keywords or keyword phrases online. For example, you can ask Google to send you a notification when someone mentions your business name online, or you can use it to find out which keywords your competitors use most often. The best part? Setting up a Google notification is free and easy to do. If you’re in the marketing business, Google Alerts is worth a try. Is there anything you can’t track with Google Alerts? Yes. You won’t see analytics, for example. For example, how often your brand is mentioned online and whether the number of mentions is increasing. This means you still need tools like Google Analytics to measure key performance indicators and other important metrics. Also, you can’t follow social media posts this way. So you need a different tool if you want to know how often you are mentioned in social media. In other words: Google Alerts are handy, but they’re not the only tool you should be using to track your brand’s online presence, keyword tracking, or PPC campaign trends.
Setting up a Google Notification
Setting up a Google notification takes no more than a few minutes. Let’s go through the steps together. First, go to google.com/alerts. If you haven’t already done so, sign in to the Google account from which you want to receive notifications. Then determine what you want to be informed about and enter a search query in the top bar. Let’s take the example of influencer marketing search: Then decide which sources you want to use. Please note that Google Alerts cannot track social media posts for you, but you can choose from other sources such as books, videos and blog posts. Then decide how often you want to receive Google notifications. You can opt for instant notification, which means you’ll be notified as soon as a relevant message appears, or you can receive updates once a day or once a week. It all depends on what works for you. If you want to further customize your alarms, you can do so. If you z. For example, if you want to receive Google notifications only for messages in a specific language, just select the desired language from the drop-down menu. Or, if you only want to follow news related to a particular country, you can limit your search to that area. Then choose whether you want to receive all the results or only those that Google considers most relevant to your search. If you z. Okay, so that’s what Google Alerts are, but can you use them for your PPC ads? Absolutely. Here are the top five ways to use Google Alerts features for your next PPC campaign.
1. Find out what’s new in your area
Of course, ongoing content is important, but trends make a big difference in all sectors. The ideal is to quickly identify these trends and how to incorporate them into your PPC advertising. How can Google Alerts help you? You can use it to check blogs and authoritative sites in your niche for new content. You can watch new news to spot potential trends and take advantage of them before your competitors do. To set up similar Google notifications, simply set notifications for [company name] + blog. For example, you can follow the Forbes blog, the Shopify blog, etc. If you’re interested in general trends in a broader niche like email marketing, you can use a general search like email marketing trends, ask Google to show you only the most relevant results, and see what comes up.
2. Defining subjects to be covered
Google Alerts, although not a keyword research tool, can be used to identify new keywords and search terms for use in PPC campaigns. An example might be helpful here. Say you sell workout supplements and you launch a new product to help people recover from tough workouts. You can set up Google alerts to see if people are typing in search terms like workout supplements and vitamin water. For starters, create an alert for these search terms. Here are some examples of how you can write your keywords:
- Recreation with exercise vitamin water
- Vitamin water supplement
- Post-workout recovery supplements Vitamin water
By using quotation marks around certain words, you will see results containing that exact phrase, as well as any other words you have added. If no one is searching for these keywords, you should reconsider the keywords you are using in your PPC ads. On the other hand, if they are popular search terms, it may be worth spending money to have your ads appear for those search terms. Like I said, Google Alerts isn’t a keyword research tool per se, but you can use it to support other keyword research strategies.
3. Receiving notifications about you or your brand
When creating PPC advertising campaigns, it’s important to understand who your target audience is. Who is talking about your brand, and what demographic groups are you reaching? Once you know the answers to these types of questions, you can create targeted and more effective PPC ads. How can Google Alerts help you? Let you know when someone mentions your business online. When you start tracking mentions, you can learn more about who is interacting with your brand and what they want from you. Again, these are simple Google Alerts settings. Just set up two separate alarms: one for your company name and one for your personal name. Use the data to decide which demographic groups you want to target with PPC advertising in the future.
4. Tracking competitors
What people say about you and your brand matters. However, it is equally important to know:
- What your target group says about your competitors
- How your competitors work online
